CANASTOTA . . .

Fred R. Edmunds, Sr., 93, of Canastota, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.

He was born on January 2, 1929, in Auburn, the son of the late Fred and Dorothy (Keller) Edmunds.

Fred spent his early years in Auburn and Hinsdale, attending West High School in Auburn. He later lived in Syracuse and Chittenango, before moving to Canastota in 1975.

He worked for General Electric in Syracuse and Utica, for 41 years, retiring in 1989.

Fred raised horses, and enjoyed spending time with his family, and also enjoyed playing many sports in his younger days.

He was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.

Fred married Irene Sumoski on May 13, 1949, in Mattydale. Irene passed away on March 17, 2008.

Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, Fred, Jr. and Nancy Edmunds, of East Syracuse; a daughter, Susan Edmunds of Canastota; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Elizabeth Doolittle of Chittenango; a sister, Betty Wickens of Minoa; six grandchildren, Matthew Haire, Adam Haire, Julie Smith, Kristi Drechsler, Michael Edmunds, and James Edmunds; twelve great grandchildren, Zoey Haire, Maisie Haire, Hunter Smith, Taylor Smith, Connor Dreschler, Harper Dreschler, Noah Dreschler, Bennett Dreschler, Cody Dreschler, Ava Edmunds, Lana Rae Edmunds, and Everly Edmunds; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. Nathan Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Durhamville.
