CANASTOTA . . .
Edward A. Pokorny, 89, of Canastota, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Oneida Extended Care Facility.
He was born on August 26, 1935, in Canastota, the son of the late Edward A. and Mary V. (Johnson) Pokorny.
Ed was raised and educated in Canastota and graduated from Canastota High School in 1953. Mr. Pokorny was a proud U.S Army Veteran. On June 16, 1962, Ed married the former Mary Jane Stucker in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chittenango, NY. The couple shared in a union of over sixty-two years.
Mr. Pokorny served our community as a New York State Trooper for over twenty years, and a Judge in the Village of Canastota and in the Town of Lenox for over thirty-one years. He was known for always being available.
Surviving are his beloved wife; Mary Jane; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Amy Pokorny of Munnsville; a daughter, Diana D’Amico and her companion Bill Hughes, both of Whitney Point; seven grandchildren, Blake and Andrea Shields, Jayme and Brandon Jacobs, Jacey Pokorny and her companion, Michael, Jay Pokorny and his companion, Lexi, Lisa and Michael Russitano, Megan D’Amico and her companion, Beecher, and Sammy D’Amico and his companion, Emma; and three great grandchildren, Rayne Jacobs, Ella Jacobs, and Emilia Russitano. He is also survived by several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Cousins, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Suzanne and Conrad Rapalski, Patrica Stucker, and Glenda Stucker; and his canine companion, Roxie who he shared a special bond with.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota from 4-6 pm. Mr. Pokorny’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 204 Genesee Street, Chittenango, NY, at 11:00 AM.
