CANASTOTA . . . Arline Petti Collier, 91, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of Canastota, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Born on October 10, 1933, in Port Chester, NY, Arline was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Cannitello) Petti. She spent her early years in Port Chester and graduated from Port Chester High School in 1951. Deeply committed to education, she went on to earn her degree from SUNY Albany in 1955 and devoted her professional life to teaching primary and secondary mathematics. On July 28, 1956, Arline married Frank Anthony Collier in Canastota. Their loving marriage spanned 58 years, until Frank's passing in 2014. Together, they raised their daughter, Cathy, in a home rooted in love, respect, and a strong sense of community. Arline served the Oneida School District with distinction for 36 years as an educator, mentor, and leader, retiring in 1990. She was also a dedicated member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, where she actively participated in parish life. She found great joy in walking, reading, and traveling, but above all, cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, Frank and Caitlyn. Arline will be remembered for her infectious laugh, sharp wit, and the sardonic humor that endeared her to many. She is survived by her daughter, Cathymarie (Collier) Sweeney; son-in-law, Charles Patrick Sweeney, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Frank Sweeney Fox and Caitlyn Shannon Sweeney. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Nancy LaBella and Sylvia Gabriele. In accordance with Arline's wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of her family. There will be no calling hours. The Rev. Anthony F. Tosti will officiate. Arrangements are under the care of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Spirit of Hope Parish for St. Agatha's Bereavement Ministry, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY 13421.
