CANASTOTA . . .
C. Miriam "Mimi" Knox, 91, formerly of Canastota, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at The Cottages at Garden Grove, Cicero, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on September 16, 1933, in Canastota, the daughter of Myron and Mollie (Miller) Smith.
Mimi lived in Canastota most of her life, and was a 1950 graduate of Canastota High School. She later graduated from the Crouse School of Nursing in Syracuse in 1953. Mimi lived in Fayetteville for eighteen years, and has lived in Cicero for the last 5 years.
She became a Registered Nurse, and worked at the former Lenox Memorial Hospital in Canastota, the Evanston Illinois Hospital, and later at the Oneida City Hospital, retiring in 1965. Following her retirement, she was a Private Duty Nurse for several years.
Mimi was very faithful, and had been involved in church activities as a member of the United Church of Canastota, and Manlius United Methodist Church.
She had also been a member of the Sisters of the Lamp, and a Board Member of the Canal Town Corporation in Canastota.
Mimi was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing the piano, singing, gardening, genealogy, and spending time with her family.
She married R. Gene Knox on December 4, 1954, in Clockville. Gene passed away on January 24, 1998.
Surviving are: three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Pamela Knox of Manlius, Martin Knox of Canastota, and Barry Knox of Chittenango; one daughter, Dr. Nanci Knox of Canastota; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marion Smith of Marcellus; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Rosemary and James Olden of Canastota, and Donald Ogden of Walton; two grandchildren, Emily and Sean Gillen, and Noelle and Jordan Demo; five great grandchildren, Nora Gillen, Henry Gillen, Samantha Gillen, Isla Miriam Demo, and Shae Demo; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mimi was predeceased by one sister, Geannea Ogden.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the funeral home. The. Rev. Joseph Kim, Pastor of the Manlius United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota.
In her memory, contributions may be made to the Manlius United Methodist Church, PO Box 177, Manlius, NY 13104, or to the Canastota Public Library, 102 West Center Street, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
