Muriel A. Alesci, 90, of Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 28, 1935 in Malone, NY, the daughter of the late Harvey and Laura (Clark) Peryer. Muriel spent her early years in Churubusco, and was a graduate of Ellenburg Central School.
She married Donald W. LaBarre on November 29, 1952, in St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. They had three sons: Lance, Donald, and Jay.
Muriel graduated as Valedictorian of her class from the Rome Memorial Nursing Program in 1969. She worked as a nurse in charge at Stonehedge Nursing Home in Chittenango, and later at Oneida City Hospital.
She enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, clogging, bicycling, boating, walking, golfing, reading, and music.
Muriel was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Verona, and its Altar and Rosary Society, and St. Agatha's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, a member and frequent adorer at St. Agatha's Adoration Chapel in Canastota. A member of the Women's Auxiliary of VFW Post #600 in Canastota, the Women's Auxiliary of Catholic War Veterans Post #1917 in Lakeland, FL, the Adirondack Mountain Cloggers of Liverpool, and various dancing clubs in Syracuse.
She later married Francis J. "Frank" Alesci on November 3, 1978, in St. Michael's Church in Central Square. Frank died on October 27, 2012.
Surviving are: two sons, Lance LaBarre of Chittenango, and Jay and Annmarie LaBarre of Cazenovia; two brothers, David and Carol Peryer of Clockville, and James Peryer and Sherry Parr of Canastota; a sister-in-law, Judith Peryer of Canastota; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Muriel was predeceased by one son, Donald LaBarre; and two brothers, Ronald Peryer, and Robert Peryer.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5652 Main Street, Verona, where there will be a traditional Latin Requiem Mass. The Rev. Edmund Castronovo, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota.
In her memory, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, PO Box 135, Verona, NY 13478, or to Spirit of Hope Parish, 121 S. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY 13421, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
