Canastota, NY – Richard J. Keyes, 73, of Canastota, NY passed away after a long illness, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in Syracuse, NY with his family by his side.

He was born on October 12, 1951, in Michigan, the son of the late Arvid and Rosella Keyes.

Richard graduated from high school in Howell, Michigan in 1971; after high school he entered the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. On December 31, 1998, he married the former Patricia McKinstry-Sutton. The couple shared in a union blessed with more than twenty-six years of marriage. Richard was an avid fan of Scooby Doo.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his stepchildren, Lisa Taylor, and Richard Sutton; grandchildren, Nicholas Rattliff and Zackory Sutton; and four sisters and a brother-in-law, JoAnn Schmidt, Irene Neff, Linda and Bob Bushman, and Rosie Yanik. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nick, Pete, and Jim Keyes; and four sisters, Susie Keyes, Ruthie Tyler, Barb Stroub, and Ann Bigham.

In keeping with Mr. Keyes wishes there will be no public services.
