Margaret “Maggie” Jeannette (Kroneck) Cary, Canastota, New York passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. She was born on April 3, 1928, in Oneida, New York the daughter of the late Samuel, Sr. and Irene (Hatch) Kroneck.

Margaret was a graduate of Sherrill High School. Mrs. Cary held a position as a clerk for the Peterboro Post Office for more than twenty-five years. On September 22, 1946, in Oneida Castle she married Ivan J. Cary; the couple shared in a union blessed with over forty-four years of marriage prior to Mr. Cary’s passing on April 22, 1991.

Her memberships, include, the Peterboro Methodist Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oneida, the AARP, the Canastota/Lenox Senior Citizen Center the Oneida Women’s Moose Club, and she volunteered for many organizations, including, RSVP, the Office of The Aging, the Red Cross Blood Mobile, Karing Kitchen, and the Madison County Health Fair. She was awarded the Roses of The Living from the Canastota Rotary Club in 2010, and the Morrisville Lions Club Citizen of Merit in 1991. She enjoyed crafts, puzzles, knitting, crocheting, golfing, bowling, line dancing, and bus trips.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Deborah Cary of Canastota, and Ronald and Karen Cary of Sylvan Beach; grandchildren, Rob Cary, Christine Cary-Wood, Megan Cary, Tim Chesebro, Jennifer Johnson, and Mike and Matt Chesebro. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Cary. She was preceded in death by a son, James Cary; and a brother, Grant Kroneck.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota from 9-11a.m. Mrs. Cary’s funeral service will take place follow calling hours at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will take place in Peterboro Cemetery following Mrs. Cary’s funeral service.
