Canastota, NY – Andrew Lopitz, Jr., 78, of Canastota, NY passed away, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Oneida Health Hospital.

He was born on March 22, 1947, in Canastota, NY, the son of the late Andrew, Sr. and Kathleen (Weismore) Lopitz.

Andrew was raised and educated in Canastota, NY, where he graduated from Canastota High School. On October 28, 1967, Andrew married the former Alice Melanie Warren in the First Presbyterian Church in Oneida, NY. The couple shared in a union blessed with over fifty-seven years of marriage. Mr. Lopitz held a position at the Carrier Corporation, retiring after more than forty years of loyal service.

Andrew enjoyed spending time with his family and many special friends. He was an avid car enthusiast and was able to fix anything that had wheels. His passion for cars led him to own several “Toys” throughout the years. Andrew loved sports, he played on several softball teams, bowling leagues, and golf leagues throughout the area over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Bart Sgroi of Canastota; a son, Andrew Lopitz, III of Oneida; a granddaughter, Isabella Sgroi; a step-granddaughter, Tara Wellman; two sisters, Mary Jane Gardner of Syracuse, and Nancy Petrie of Rome; and a brother, Michael Lopitz of Canastota. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and in-laws, Sharon Lopitz, Bonnie Lopitz, and Melissa Krzal. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Rosario Sgroi; a sister, Debra McCormick; and two brothers, Richard and Douglas Lopitz.

Calling hours will be held on Monday morning, September 8, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota from 9-11 a.m. Mr. Lopitz’s funeral service will follow calling hours at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday morning. Burial will follow at St. Helena’s Cemetery in Sherrill, NY.
