VERONA BEACH . . .
Bruce R. Chenel, 66, of 6411 Lakeshore Road South, Canastota, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Abraham House, Rome, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on November 16, 1958, in Oneida, the son of the late Roland and Claire (Eddy) Chenel.
Bruce spent his early years in Wampsville, graduating from Oneida High School in 1977, and has lived in the Verona Beach area for the last six years.
He worked for Central New York Coach in Chittenango, which became CNY Bus Sales, for more than thirty years, retiring in 2018.
Bruce enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, cards, golf, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Friday Night Men's League at Casolwood Golf Course in Canastota, and was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Sylvan Beach.
He was a hard worker, great with a welding stick, horrible with a pitching wedge, a local tavern favorite, a friend to all, slightly inappropriate, loving, caring, and so much more of a person.
Bruce was married to Jeanine Skibitzki for twenty-three years.
Surviving are: one son Joshua and Jessica Chenel of Munnsville; one granddaughter, Layla Mary Chenel; two brothers, Steven Chenel and Tekla Dorgan of Wampsville, and William and Julie Chenel of Houston, TX; five sisters, Jeanne Chenel Goldsmith of Latham, Kathy and Steven Scaman of Olatha, KS, Debi and Rick Savage of Auburndale, FL, Valarie Thayer of Angier, NC, and Melissa Zizzi of Oriskany; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bruce was predeceased by one son, Bruce R. Chenel, II on January 8, 2007, his father, Roland Chenel; his mother, Claire Rose; and one brother, Thomas Chenel.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. At Bruce's request there will be no funeral service.
In his memory and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Abraham House, 417 N. Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
