ONEIDA CASTLE . . .
Nelson C. Halladay, 52, of 65 Seneca Avenue, Oneida, and formerly of Canastota, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at his home, following a brief illness.
He was born on August 22, 1973, in Oneida, the son of Alvin "Red" Sr. and Virginia (Forbes) Halladay.
Nelson lived in Canastota most of his life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1994, and has lived in Oneida for the past six years.
He has worked as an EMT for thirty years at Vineall Ambulance in Oneida, and also at the Madison County EMS.
Nelson has volunteered extensively as an EMT and Fire Fighter in Canastota and the surrounding area for many years. He has been a member of the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service in Canastota for thirty years, and the Central Oneida County Ambulance for four years. He was a member of the Canastota Volunteer Fire Department for more than twenty years, North Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department for three years, Durhamville Volunteer Fire Department, Verona Volunteer Fire Department for four years, and is currently a member of the Oneida Castle Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed helping others, the outdoors, riding ATV's, camping, road trips with his best friend, Jared, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are: his mother, Virginia Halladay; four brothers, Alvin Halladay, Jr., of Concord, NC, Donald and Sharon Halladay of Griffin, GA, Morris and Missy Halladay of Canastota, and his fraternal twin, Frederick Halladay and Erma Jones of Cazenovia; five sisters, Barbara and David Mathers of Clockville, Linda and Carl Coonrod, Tina and Paul Bowman of Durhamville, Peggy Babcock of Cazenovia, and Vicki and Frank "Forty" Carroll of Kirkville; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nelson is also survived by his special family, Jared and April Kirstein and their children, Kyler, Abby, Ally, Michael, and Sarah, all of Oneida. Nelson was pre-deceased by his father, Alvin M. Halladay, Sr., who passed away on February 2, 2007.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Wilson of Grace Bible Fellowship, Canastota, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota.
