BOUCKVILLE . . .
Thomas Gene Venne, 74, of Bouckville, and a former Canastota resident, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his home.
He was born on June 21, 1951, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Edward and G. Marie (Turgeon) Venne.
Tom spent his early years in Youngstown, NY , graduating from Lewiston Porter High School in 1969, and later attended SUNY Morrisville. He lived in Canastota for many years, and has lived in Bouckville for more than 20 years.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving overseas during the Vietnam War.
Tom worked as a machinist at Owl Wire in Canastota for many years, and later at Phillips Magnavox in Manlius.
He was a member of St. Agatha's Catholic Church in Canastota.
His childhood was full of adventures growing up on Lake Ontario. Tom took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren, sharing advice on life skills, taking them on fishing trips, and spending Sunday afternoons making memories. He was always lending a helping hand to everyone and anyone. Tom was a member of the NRA, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and baking. He will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors, and friends.
He was formerly married to Rose "Sue" Galavotti for seventeen years.
Surviving are: three daughters, Sarah Cox, Jessica and Garth Sharlette, and Maria and Nicholas Campbell, all of Canastota; nine grandchildren, Philip Cox, III, Caterina Cox, Joseph Cox, Arianna Sharlette, Vanessa Sharlette, Alexandra and Nicholas Weber, Anna Campbell, Catherine Campbell, and Gary Campbell; his thirteen siblings, Dana C. Venne, James M. (Gail) Venne, John A. (Cheryl) Venne, Teresa C. Venne, Mary N. Venne, Janice R. Venne, Susan J. (Thomas) Myers, Patricia L. Venne, Steven J. Venne, Joan R. Haley, David J. (Sharon) Venne, Jean A. (Robert) Vaughn, and Jane M. (Christopher) Carrigan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was predeceased by one son-in-law, Philip E. Cox, Jr.; four siblings, Linda A. Venne, Judith A. Venne, Edward F. Venne, Jr., and Rose Marie Venne; and one sister-in-law, Kathie Venne.
Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, following the calling hours. The Rev. Christopher J. Ballard, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
