Grant R. Snell, 86, of 400 Lamb Avenue, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse.



He was born on September 16, 1939, in Oppenheim, NY, the son of the late Milo and Beulah (Stock) Snell.



Grant spent his early years in Johnstown and Gloversville, attending the Johnstown schools. He later lived in Little Falls for many years, Clockville for thirty-eight years, moving to Canastota in 2021.



He worked for Little Falls Lumber Company for thirty-two years, retiring in 2002. After retirement he worked for United Refining at the Kwik Fill in Canastota.



Grant was a member of the Clockville United Methodist Church, the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed being part of the Fire Police.



He enjoyed going to auctions, fire department activities, spending time with his family, and was a lifelong Yankees fan.



Grant married Sharon A. Kilts on October 14, 1972, in Vienna.



Surviving besides his wife, Sharon, are: four sons, Joseph and Ellen Snell of Wellsburg, Timothy Snell and Summer Whaley of Clockville, William Snell of Mohawk, and Roger and Tammy Snell of Clinton; two daughters, Betty and Robert Norton of Cherry Valley, and Marie and Jason Sorensen of Clockville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Leavenworth of Florida; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Kilts of Fairport; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Grant was predeceased by four brothers, Emmett Snell, Milo Snell, Ellsworth "Al" Snell, and Otis Snell; four sisters, Ora Sealey, Elsie Ebert, Iona Wert, and Betty Snell; and two stepbrothers, Wilbur Lampman, and Wilmer Lampman.



Calling hours will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, following the calling hours. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate. Spring burial will be in Clockville Cemetery.



In his memory, contributions may be made to the Stoneleigh Apartments Tenants' Association, 400 Lamb Avenue, Canastota, NY 13032, or to the Clockville United Methodist Church, PO Box 15, Clockville, NY 13043, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
