CANASTOTA . . .

Rebecca J. Sobotka, 31, of 7175 Oxbow Road, Canastota, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on March 26, 1995, in Hamilton, the daughter of Daniel L. Sobotka and Lori J. Russo.

Rebecca has lived in Canastota most of her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 2013.

She enjoyed music and games on her phone, cooking shows, shopping, true crime shows, going out to eat, spending time with her family, and she loved Highland Cows.

Surviving are: her father and step-mother, Daniel and Mildred Sobotka of Piney Flats, TN; her mother and step-father, Lori and Frederick Casler of Canastota; paternal grandmother, Anna Sobotka of Haubstadt, IN; maternal grandmother, Susan Russo of Manlius; two brothers, Daniel Sobotka, Jr. and Angela Jensen of Anchorage, AK, and Gary and Dorothy "DJ" Sobotka of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Alicia and Akili Ferrell of Manhattan, NYC; two nephews, Ajani Ferrell, and Addae Ferrell; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Rebecca is also survived by her longtime boyfriend, Brandon Shaw, of Camden. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Leonard Sobotka; maternal grandfather, Jeffrey Russo; and one uncle, Jeffrey "Ralph" Russo.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Back Roads Tavern, 4299 Canal Street, Canastota. Pastor Kevin Bailey of Three Voices Presbyterian Church will officiate. Immediately following the memorial service, a Celebration of her Life will be held at Back Roads Tavern until 8 p.m. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.

In her memory, contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York, 1100 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.
