Obituary of Beverly B. Walters

WHITELAW . . . Beverly B. Walters, 88, of 3217 Whitelaw Road, Canastota, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. She was born on May 12, 1929, in Syracuse, the daughter of Ithiel and Arlene (VanAntwerp) Brownson. Beverly spent her early years in Eastwood, NY, Erie, PA, and Bridgeport, NY, graduating from Minoa High School. She has lived in Whitelaw most of her life. She worked as the Credit Manager at W.T. Grants in Oneida, Deppoliti Northeast Auctions in Canastota, and she later retired from the Canastota Public Library. Beverly was a Voting Inspector for the Town of Lenox, District 1, for many years. Beverly enjoyed reading, scratch-offs, and spending time with her family and her cat "Candy Cat". She married John W. Walters, Sr., on January 21, 1950, in Bridgeport. John passed away on March 6, 2001. Surviving are: one son, John W. Walters, Jr., of Whitelaw; and a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Bruce Yorton of Whitelaw; two grandchildren, Hillary Yorton and Chris Graham of Munnsville, and Gregory Yorton and Michelle Mathis of Rome; two great grandchildren, Greyson Graham, and Arya Mathis; her "adopted family", Larry and Dorothy Ball, and their children, Alex Ball, and Emily Ball; a sister-in-law, Lois Thurston of Munnsville; as well as many nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill and Rita Brownson, and Donald Brownson. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Pastor Donna Chapman of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church will officiate. At Beverly's request there will be no calling hours, however the family will greet friends at the funeral home following the service.
