CANASTOTA . . . Elizabeth C. Gorton, 83, of 113 S. Main Street, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at her home, following a brief illness. She was born on June 28, 1937, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Seaman) Carr. Elizabeth spent her early years in Canastota, attending the Canastota schools. She later lived in Gouverneur, moving back to Canastota 16 years ago. She enjoyed watching television, and sitting on her front porch. Elizabeth first married William Weideman, and later married Curtis Jayson, and Merle Gorton. Surviving are: her longtime companion, John W. Mason; a son, William Weidman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Tim Allen of Hammond, NY, Lisa and Doug Cross of Supply, NC, and Lillian Gorton of Rochester, NY, and Mark Mudge of Canastota; two brothers, Edward Carr of Utica, and Herbert Carr of Rome; one sister, Susan Carr of Syracuse; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elizabeth was predeceased by two daughters, Cindy Mudge, and April Hunter. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service (GLAS), PO Box 382, Canastota, NY 13032.
