CANASTOTA . . .

Christopher M Helmer, 34, of 313 W. Lewis Street, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Oneida Health.

He was born on July 19, 1986, in Oneida, the son of Christinna Dixon and Michael Helmer, Sr.

Chris has lived in Canastota most of his life, attending the Canastota schools.

He enjoyed whittling, and loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are: his mother and stepfather, Christinna and Daniel Avery, Sr. of Canastota; two sons, Naythin Helmer of Canastota, and Liam Parmeter of Oswego; his maternal grandmother, Merilyn Nataro of Canastota; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Daniel, Jr. and Nicole Avery of Syracuse, and Matthew Avery and Ciara Bluewolf of Lakeport; one sister, Marion Riley-Avery and her life partner, Debbie Cullip, of Canastota; his father, Michael Helmer, Sr. and Elaine Clark of Durhamville; his stepmother, Jill McAllister; paternal grandmother, Betty Helmer of Durhamville; two brothers, Andrew Helmer of Munnsville, and Michael Helmer, Jr. of Durhamville; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at St. Agatha’s Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. Nathan Brooks will officiate. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
