Obituary of Margaret F. "Peggy" Hartley

CANASTOTA . . . Margaret F. "Peggy" Hartley, 84, of Oxbow Road, Canastota, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. She was born on February 4, 1936, in Grove City, PA, the daughter of the late Floyd and Ellen (Schultz) Filer. Peggy spent her early years in Grove City, graduating from Grove City High School in 1954, moving to Canastota in 1957. She worked for Magnavox in Manlius for many years, retiring in 1995. Peggy was a member and past Matron of the Silver Star Chapter #21 Order of the Eastern Star, and the White Shrine in Grove City, PA, for more than 50 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motorhome, and making plastic canvas and yarn flags for motorcycle antennas, and has made thousands of them for her son to give away in his travels. Peggy married F. Glenn Hartley on October 5, 1956, in Grove City, PA. Glenn passed away on November 17, 2011. Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Deborah Hartley of Canastota; and several cousins in the Grove City, PA area. Peggy was predeceased by one brother, Gary E. Filer in 2002. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, with a funeral service to follow at 5 p.m. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Grove City, PA. In her memory, contributions may be made to Youth Rally Committee, Inc., 949 Chestnut Oak Drive, St. Charles, MO 63303, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
