Obituary of Michael E. Rood

MUNNSVILLE . . . Michael E. Rood, 68, of 326 Leonard Street, Oneida, and a longtime Munnsville resident, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, following a brief illness. He was born on January 11, 1953, in Canastota, the son of the late Vernon Sr. and Sylvia (Hyland) Rood. Michael lived in Munnsville most of his life, graduating from Stockbridge Valley High School in 1971, and later attended SUNY Brockport. He has lived in Oneida for the last year and a half. He was a self-employed carpenter in the area for many years. Michael enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, having deep conversations with family and friends, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He was of the Catholic Faith. Surviving are: one daughter, Christiana Rood and her fiancé, Derrick Baker, of Munnsville; two grandchildren, Marlie Brummer, and Elliot Baker; one brother, Scott Rood of Munnsville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Daniel Eanniello of Munnsville, Charlene and Paul Lawless of Oneida, and Shawn and Gary Meyer of Munnsville; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Michael was predeceased by one son, Aaron M. Rood; one brother, Vernon "Gus" Rood, Jr.; and one sister, Colleen Rood. At Michael's request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Stockbridge Cemetery, Munnsville. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Munnsville Volunteer Fire Department, 5210 S. Main Street, Munnsville, NY 13409.
