CANASTOTA . . . James P. Murphy, 58, of 6225 Old County Road, Canastota, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at his home with his family by his side, following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 11, 1964, in Newburgh, NY, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Denyeau) Murphy. Jim spent his early years in Newburgh, graduating from Storm King School in Cornwall, NY in 1982. He later graduated from Colorado Mountain College in 1985, with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Environmental Technology. Jim has lived in Canastota since 2003. He has worked for various companies in Central New York, most recently working as a Project Manager for the Miller Environmental Group in Syracuse for 2 years. Jim enjoyed golf, football, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, serving on the Parish Council Jim married Michelle L. Abbott on October 9, 1993, in Newburgh. Surviving besides his wife, Michelle, are: one son, Liam Murphy of Canastota; one daughter, Elizabeth Murphy of Canastota; four brothers, Steve and Anna Kinsley of Norwich, Brian and Dawn Kinsley of Wallkill, Timmy and Carla Kinsley of Newburgh, and Terrance Kinsley of Newburgh; one sister, Theresa Murphy Librie and Michael Librie of Calabash, NC; one sister-in-law, Jeanie Kinsley of Montgomery, NY; two aunts; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Murphy; his step-mother, Jean Kinsley; and two brothers, Joseph Murphy, and Jim Kinsley. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. Christopher J. Ballard, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. At Jim's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, with envelopes available at the funeral home, or to www.hospicecareinc.org.
