CANASTOTA . . . Fay E. Teachout, 87, of 208 Third Street, Canastota, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Oneida Healthcare, following a brief illness. He was born on February 28, 1936, in Whitelaw, the son of Fay L. and Edna (Jones) Teachout. Fay lived in the Canastota area all his life, attending the Canastota schools. He worked as an upholsterer for the Harden Furniture Company in McConnellsville, for twenty years, retiring in 1984. Fay was a member of the former Oneida Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #421. He enjoyed spending time at their camp in Lebanon, winters in Myrtle Beach, and spending time with his family. Fay married Mary C. Tavani on November 22, 1972, in Canastota. Mary passed away on March 17, 2023. Surviving are: two daughters, Sheila Fisher-Mutz and Frank Mutz, and Stacy Humennyj, all of Canastota; three grandchildren, Michael and Susan Fisher of Manlius, Brieanne Stokes and Nicole Serrano of Syracuse, and Brayde Humennyj of Syracuse; one great granddaughter, Gabriella Fisher; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fay was predeceased by four sisters, Addie Metot, Edith Campbell, Betty Kincaid, and Ruth Gregg. At Fay's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, NY 13032. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, Canastota, NY 13032, or the Canastota Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 81, Canastota, NY 13032.
