CANASTOTA . . . Nancy A. Fradenburg, 80, of 6912 Nelson Road, Canastota, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at her home with her loving family by her side, following a lengthy illness. She was born on June 28, 1942, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Michael and Christine (Seymore) Buttino. Nancy has lived in Canastota all of her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1960, and SUNY Oswego in 1964. She was an Elementary School Teacher for the Canastota Central School for 35 years, from 1964-1999 when she retired. Nancy was a reading teacher for most of that time, as well as a mentor to many new teachers. She remained very active at the school following her retirement, and had a life-long commitment to children's education. Upon receiving the Vincent V. Albanese Alumni Achievement Award she remarked, "I am a teacher, or I was a teacher – and it was just an honor." "It was rewarding, especially as you watched them go through the grades." Nancy was a devoted committee member of many school and community organizations, but was extremely passionate about the Canastota Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association, the Canastota Alumni Association, and the Canastota Wall of Distinction Committee. She was a committed member of the Canastota Bicentennial Committee and the Italian American Books Committee. In addition to her teaching and community involvement, she found time to enjoy traveling, especially to Hawaii, Italy and Gaithersburg, reading, her cats, and spending time with her family. Nancy was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. She married Jon R. Fradenburg on August 21, 1965, in Canastota, and were happily married for 57 years. Surviving besides her husband, Jon, are: one daughter and son-in-law, Susan E.F. Brost and Todd R. Brost of Gaithersburg, MD; one grandson, Ryan W. Brost; her brother-in-law, James L. Fradenburg of N. Carolina; one nephew, James J. and Susan Fradenburg; and one niece, Judith J. Fradenburg; as well as several cousins. Nancy was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Joann Fradenburg.
