CANASTOTA . . . Joseph T. Kuhl, Jr., 76, formerly of Warner Heights Road, Canastota, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, KS, following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 11, 1946, in Stamford, NY, the son of the late Joseph T. Sr. and Belva (Tyler) Kuhl. Joe lived in Fayetteville most of his life, graduating from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1965. He later graduated from Paul Smith's College in 1968, with an AAS Degree in Forestry. Joe lived in Canastota from 1981-2018, when he moved to Champions Gate, FL, and recently move to Kansas to be near his sister, Susan. Joe was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, proudly serving overseas in the United States Navy. He worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years, retiring in 2003. Joe was a member of the NYS Association of Transportation Engineers, and had been named Regional Engineer of the Year. He was a member and past Master of the Nortrip Masonic Lodge #998 F&AM, the Fayetteville Central City Lodge #5787 F&AM, and was the Grand Lodge Director of Ceremonies for New York State. Joe was a Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter #144 in N. Syracuse; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Central City Bodies of N. Syracuse; a member of Boy Scout Troop #30 in Fayetteville, becoming an Eagle Scout earning the God & Country Award, and was an Assistant Troop Leader. Joe was an active member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, and had been a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server, and assisted with Religious Education Program, and was a Pastor Care Minister. He enjoyed traveling, camping, NASCAR Racing, and spending time with his family. Surviving are: one sister, Susan Huntington of Butler, TN/Spring Hill, KS; one sister-in-law, Terry Kuhl of Champions Gate, FL; one niece, Lindy (Mark) Landzaat; nephews, Daniel (Shauna) Huntington, Adam (Nikki) Huntington, Jordan (Alexis) Kuhl, Travis (Kali) Kuhl, and Parker Kuhl; four great nieces; four great nephews; several aunts and cousins; and special friend, Kathy Mohorter. Joe was predeceased by his brother, Timothy Kuhl; and brother-in-law, Thomas Huntington. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the St. Agatha's Church, c/o SOHCC Central Office, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY 13421.
