CANASTOTA, NY . . .
Margaret E. Cerio, 97, of 51 Holiday Lane, Canandaigua, NY, and formerly of Canastota, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born on January 13, 1926, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine (Nicotra) Sgroi.
Margaret lived in Canastota most of her life, and was a 1944 graduate of Canastota High School.
She worked for the Madison County Public Health Department for 20 years, retiring in 1989.
Margaret was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, going to the Casino, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Margaret married Carmen A. Cerio on August 21, 1948, in Canastota. Carmen passed away on January 18, 1995.
Surviving are: one son, Joseph Cerio of Cicero; one daughter, Carol Cerio-Farnham of Canandaigua; four grandchildren, April Farnham, Holly Farnham, Chloe Farnham, and Corrina Cerio; one great grandson, Jackson Hurd; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Sgroi, and James Sgroi; and three sisters, Carmella Sgroi, Catherine Rapasadi, and Mary Matina.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. Nathan Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. At Margaret's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
