CLOCKVILLE . . . Daniel F. Mowers, 97, formerly of 3896 Cottons Road, Canastota, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville. He was born on April 14, 1926, in Rome, NY, the son of the late Frank and Jessie (Perry) Mowers. Dan spent his early years in the Peterboro/Smithfield area, attending schools there. He has lived in Clockville since 1962. He worked for A.W. Kincaid Well Drilling for 43 years, retiring in 1992. Dan was a World War II Veteran, serving overseas in the United States Navy. Dan was an active volunteer with the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen at the United Church in Canastota, the Opportunity Shop in Canastota, and the Peterboro Conservation Club. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Canastota. Dan enjoyed road trips in New York State, building birdhouses, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dan married Frances A. Brown on November 26, 1960, in Canastota. Fran passed away on October 19, 2015. Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kimberly Mowers of Cazenovia, and Craig Mowers and Doreen Hough of Oneida; one daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Robert Bailey of Cazenovia; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Burgdoff of Ocala, FL, and Juanita Burgdoff of Oneida; eight grandchildren, Brett, Matthew, and Joshua Mowers, Russell, Dustin, and Zachary Eddy, and Anissa, and Dillon Mowers; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends including Archie Anderson. Dan was predeceased by one daughter, Tracy Eddy; three brothers, Robert and Raymond Burgdoff, and Richard Mowers; and three sisters, Lucy Pugh, Minnie Mowers, and Anna Kreslins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 400 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate. Burial will be in Clockville Cemetery. At Dan's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, 7224 Old County Road, Canastota, NY 13032, or to Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 26, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the church.
