MUNNSVILLE . . . James L. Cortes, 53, of 6211 East Hill Road, Munnsville, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Albany Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 8, 1969, in Oneida, the son of Hector, Sr. and Joyce (Hart) Cortes. Jim spent his early years in Canastota, graduating from Canastota High School in 1990, and has lived in the area all of his life. He worked at Turning Stone Casino for fourteen years, retiring due to his health. Jim enjoyed art, painting, fishing, riding around on his scooter, and spending time with his family. Surviving are: three children, James D. Cortes of Oneida, Troy E. Cortes of Oneida, and Cienna L. Cortes of Sylvan Beach; one granddaughter, Gwendolyn Cortes; his mother, Joyce Cortes of Canastota; five brothers, Robert Musacchio, David and Felicia Musacchio, and Michael and Thelma Musacchio, all of Canastota, Hector Cortes, Jr. of Chittenango, and Jose and Bonnie Cortes of Canastota; one sister, Teresa Cortes of Canastota; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. James was predeceased by his father, Hector Cortes, Sr. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Anthony F. Tosti will officiate. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Oneida Lake Foundation, PO Box 3536, Syracuse, NY 13220-3536, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
