Obituary of Ronald E. Metcalf

CANASTOTA . . . Ronald E. Metcalf, 87, of 212 E. Hickory Street, Canastota, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, following a brief illness. He was born on September 8, 1935, in Canastota, the son of the late Eldon and Janice (Brown) Metcalf. Ron has lived in Canastota all of his life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1953. He worked for General Electric in Syracuse for 40 years, retiring in 1992. Ron enjoyed trapping, fly fishing, billiards, boating, vacationing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Trout Unlimited, the Canastota Drum & Bugle Corps. where he played trumpet, Vice-President of the Canastota Little League, a Canastota Little League Coach at the Grasshopper, Minor League, and Major League levels. He also played men's fast pitch and slow pitch softball. Ron was an avid New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and Syracuse University sports fan. He married Mary Paula "Polly" Lisi on June 30, 1956, in Canastota. Polly passed away on November 2, 1996. Surviving are: two sons, Michael and Janice Metcalf of Baldwinsville, and Martin and Michelle Metcalf of California; one daughter, Mallory and Mark Peryer, Sr. of Canastota; five grandchildren, Mark Peryer, Jr., Meghan Metcalf, Mikaella Metcalf, Marisa Peryer, and Mylee Metcalf; one brother, Bruce and Barbara Metcalf of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by one brother, Richard "Dick" Metcalf. At Ron's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to Canastota Little League, PO Box 501, Canastota, NY 13032.
