Obituary of Shirley A. McNally

ONEIDA . . . Shirley A. McNally, 86, of 226 Farrier Avenue, Oneida, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. She was born on November 9, 1936, in Lowville, the daughter of the late Simeon and Mary (Volando) Youngs. Shirley spent her early years in Northern New York, attending school there as well as in Camden and Cazenovia. She later lived in McConnellsville, Perryville, and Chittenango most of her life. Shirley has lived in Oneida since 2011. She worked at Stonehedge Nursing Home in Chittenango for several years. Shirley enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, cooking for friends and family, and spending time with her family. She married George J. McNally, Sr., on November 2, 1954, in Clockville. George passed away on February 23, 1998. Surviving are: two sons, George, Jr. and Rose McNally of Canastota, and James McNally of Clinton; four daughters, Sharon Adler of Canastota, Mary and Vaughn Hatch of Whitelaw, Theresa DeVaul of Oneida, and Etta Mae and Ernest Harp of Chittenango; two sisters, Edna Haldenwang of Oneida, and Mildred "Millie" Whitmeyer of Citra, FL; ten grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was predeceased by three grandchildren; two brothers, David Youngs, and Homer Youngs; and three sisters, Evelyn Merlin, Clara Chingari, and Etta Mae Ellsworth. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jeff Leahey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chittenango. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Church on the Rock, 164 Madison Street, Oneida, NY 13421, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
