CANASTOTA . . .

Nicholas J. "Uncle Nick" Passante, 94, of 126 Chapel Street, Canastota, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness

He was born on March 1, 1923, in Canastota, the son of the late Mariano and Mary (DeVencenzo) Passante.

Nick has lived in Canastota all of his life, and attended the Canastota schools.

He raised peppers and onions with his father and brother, worked for Henney Motors in Canastota, and later for V. Giufre & Sons in Canastota, for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He, also, worked at Sandy's Flowers & Gifts in Canastota for many years.

Nick was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as gardening, hunting, and fishing.

Surviving are: one brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Jay Passante of Canastota; one sister, Rose Lucarelli of Canastota; nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Brockway of Sherrill, Mary and Patrick James of Oneida, Rosemary Awad of Oneida, and Thomas and Sandy Passante of Canastota; beloved great nieces and nephews, Gregory Brockway and LaToya Linen, Alyse and Joseph DiGeorge, Kayla and Joshua Duffy, and Kimberly Brockway; two great great nephews, Joseph DiGeorge, Jr., and Kendrick Brockway; as well as many cousins. Nick was predeceased by one sister and two brothers-in-law, Mary and George Awad, and Aldo Lucarelli.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. William A. Mesmer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In Nick's memory, contributions may be made to St. Agatha's Church Bereavement Ministry, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
