Obituary of Marcus J. "Mark" Klaister

CANASTOTA . . . Marcus J. "Mark" Klaister, 69, of 546 South Main Street, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Crouse Hospital Syracuse, after having a stroke at his home on Saturday. He was born on January 2, 1954, in Buffalo, the son of the late Eugene and Eleanor (Zastempowski) Klaister. Mark grew up in Buffalo, graduating from Kensington High School in 1971. He later graduated from Erie County Community College. Marc has lived in Canastota for the last thirty-six years. He was Vietnam War Veteran, serving overseas in the United States Army. Mark has worked for Collins Aerospace in Rome for more than ten years, and had previously worked for Gray-Syracuse in Chittenango. He was a communicant of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, and an Adorer at the Adoration Chapel. He was a member of the Syracuse Chapter of Lay Dominicans. Mark enjoyed reading, exploring his faith, spending time outdoors, being an Assistant Little League Baseball Coach when his boys played baseball, and spending time with his family, especially his grandson. He married Yvonne E. Schutz on November 5, 1983, in Buffalo. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Surviving besides his wife, Yvonne, are: two sons, Neil Klaister, and Eric Klaister, both of Canastota; one daughter, Alyssa Klaister of Anacortes, WA; one brother, Raymond and Jill Klaister of Buffalo; one grandson, Rayyan Klaister of Anacortes, WA; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark was predeceased by one brother, David Klaister. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev. Christopher J. Ballard, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota. In his memory, contributions can be made to Spirit of Hope Catholic Community, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY 13421, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
