Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CANASTOTA . . . Lorraine Williams Reppel, 98, formerly of Canastota, NY, passed away unexpectedly from a brief illness on Monday, January 8, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, where she resided the past four years. Right to the end, Lorraine was the strongest, most courageous woman we've ever known. Always a force of nature, leading by example. For those who knew her and loved her, Lorraine's memory will forever be a blessing. Lorraine was born on June 21, 1925, in Yorkville, to Harold and Reba Maxwell Smith - spending her early years in the Whitesboro/ Utica areas. Her nursing career spanned over 30 years. First as a Registered Nurse, graduating from Faxton School of Nursing in 1946. Proudly, in 1974 she earned a B.S. Degree in Vocational Education from SUNY Oswego, graduating with honors. As an Oneida County BOCES nursing instructor, she instilled the highest standards of care within her students, and championed the sanctity of life in her public speaking. Lorraine was known as a good listener, a magnet to all generations and had a unique ability to connect with anyone. Ever the fashionista, she always put together from head to toe and took great pride in her appearance and style. She was a Christmas fanatic, master crafter, backyard gardener and enjoyed decorating for anyone who would let her. Her St. Agatha's Church family and her life of service there were treasured memories. They were her forever friends, true gifts from God, and she was eternally grateful for their love and support. On November 30, 1946, Lorraine was married to her high school sweetheart, and love of her life, Marvin F. Williams for 18 years, until his passing in 1963. In 1975, a large blended family was created when she married her "rock" and dancing partner, Arthur J. Reppel. Lorraine embraced her role as a second mom to Art's 6 children. After 40 years of a loving marriage, Art passed away in 2014. Lorraine was predeceased by her children, Brian J. Reppel, Joan Novak, and Karen Newman; her brother, Michael J. Smith; and son-in-law, John Novak. Lorraine is survived by her dear "laughing" sister and best friend, Shirley Maher of Grove City, OH; brother, Mark (and Angie) Smith of Bradenton, FL; and children, Gary (and Donata) Williams of Clayton, NY, and Gregory (and Diane) Williams of New Hartford, NY, Marlaine (and Harry) Lerz of Effingham Falls, NH, Priscilla (and David) Jenks of Wilmington, NC, and Marcia (and John) Badger of Bonita Springs, FL; Christine Cusworth of New York Mills, Stephen (and Kerry) Reppel of Utica, Roger A. Reppel of Clinton, and son-in-law, Frank, Newman of Ilion. She is also survived by a large, loving extended family. Her many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren were her joy. Each one will remember and cherish memories of her timely birthday cards, cheerful notes and lengthy Facebook posts. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota. The Rev.
