CANASTOTA . . .
John E. Musacchio, Sr., 86, of 241 West Hickory Street, Canastota, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 19, 1937, in Canastota, the son of the late John P. and Ruth (Humez) Musacchio.
John was a lifelong resident of Canastota, graduating from Canastota High School in 1957.
He was a produce farmer, who owned and operated Musacchio Farms in Canastota for over 50 years, retiring in 2016. John was a member of the former Onion Grower's Association of Madison County.
John was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.
He enjoyed sports, and played softball and basketball for many years. John also enjoyed Syracuse University Basketball, coaching baseball and basketball, farming, vacationing in Florida, and spending time with his family.
John married Celia V. Balducci on October 18, 1958, in Canastota.
Surviving besides his wife, Celia, are: one son and daughter-in-law, John, Jr. and Donna Musacchio of Canastota; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Christopher Togias of Canastota; two grandchildren, Virginia Togias of Oneida, and Matthew Musacchio of Nashville; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Anthony Tosti of Canastota, and Frank Sullivan of Marlborough, MA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was predeceased by a sister, Gail Sullivan.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at St. Agatha's Church, Canastota. The Rev. Christopher J. Ballard, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota.
