Obituary of Rosario Andrew "Ross" Sgroi

CANASTOTA . . . Rosario A. "Ross" Sgroi, 26, of 307 Tuttle Avenue, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Oneida Healthcare. He was born on April 24, 1997, in Oneida, the son of Bart and Amanda (Lopitz) Sgroi. Ross has lived in Canastota all of his life, attending the Canastota schools and graduating from Oswego BOCES in 2017. He enjoyed reading comics, computer programing, gaming, and spending time with his family, friends, and three cats, Lunabean, Fishstick, and Pepper. Ross had a kind spirit, and was open hearted and open handed. Surviving besides his parents, Bart and Amanda Sgroi of Canastota, are: one sister, Isabella Sgroi of Canastota; paternal grandmother, Shelia Cunningham; maternal grandparents, Andrew Jr. and Alice Melanie Lopitz; aunts and uncles, Bret and Josie Sgroi, Shay Sgroi, Drew and Irma Sandoval Lopitz; and cousin, Tara Wellman. Ross was predeceased by his grandfather, Rosario R. Sgroi. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. There will be no funeral service. In his memory, contributions may be made to Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 448, Canastota, NY 13032, or to Wanderers' Rest Humane Association, Inc., PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
