CANASTOTA . . .

Donna R. Winchell, 62, of 225 N. Main Street, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.

She was born on May 13, 1961, in Oneida, the daughter of the late Robert Buyea and Annabelle (Heing) Long.

Donna spent her early years in Durhamville, attending the Durhamville and Oneida schools. She later lived in Oneida, and has lived in Canastota for the last 30 years.

She loved spending time with her family, and attending all of the school and sports activities with her grandchildren. Donna liked to camp, play disc golf, and garage saling. She was always willing to help all, and was well known for adopting anyone in need. Donna had a heart as big as the great outdoors.

Donna married Scott B. Winchell, Sr. on June 22, 1979, in Oneida.

Surviving besides her husband, Scott, are: three son and a daughter-in-law, Scott Winchell, Jr. of Canastota, Harold and Stephanie Winchell of Rome, and Paul Mathews of Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anne and Warren Skellham of Oneida, and Dezerrae Winchell of Rome; her step-father, Charles Long of Mexico, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Wendy Buyea of Canastota; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Annette and Steve Coon of Canastota, Robin Rancier of Canastota, and Melody Lapoint of Florida; several grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna was predeceased by a granddaughter, Autumn Winchell.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate.
