Rome, NY - Charlotte C. Soper, 90, passed away on Monday, April 1,2024, at Bethany Gardens in Rome, NY. She was born on September 30,1933, in Brooklyn NY, the daughter of the late Emil and Catherine (Forrest) Mittendorf. Mrs. Soper was raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY, relocating to Canastota in 1965. She retired from the Unified Court System in 1996, after many years of loyal service. She also worked part-time for several years for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff. Charlotte will be remembered for her love of family which she expressed through her cooking and baking. During the time her children were growing up, it wasn’t unusual for her to have 15 or more around the dinner table, as all were welcome. Charlotte was a lover of coffee, bowling, long walks, traveling, crossword puzzles and gardening, indoors and out. She will be remembered for her wisdom, fabulous cheesecake, wonderful sense of humor, the Brooklyn accent she never lose and her disdain for peanut butter. Charlotte was involved in many community organizations including Canal Town Museum, Help Unlimited, The Opportunity Shop and Greater Lenox Ambulance Service. She joined Greater Lenox Ambulance Service in 1987, became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and later served on the board of directors for over 10 years. Charlotte is survived by three daughters, Kim Olden of Canastota, Karen “Kay” Popple and her partner Peter Henderson of Syracuse, and Kelly Soper and her husband Tom Slawsky of Canastota; son Chris Soper of New Mexico, and sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Maria Teresa Soper of the Philippines and Michael and Susette Soper of Oneida. She’s also survived by her best friend Cindy Arnold, sister-in-law D’Arcy Soper, her beloved grandchildren with whom she had special relationships, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Soper, grandson Mark Brinson, granddaughter Aurora Bittrolff, son-in-law, Robert Bittrolff; and three brothers, William, John, and Emil Mittendorf. There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a time to be announced. Burial will take place in Lenox Rural Cemetery, in Canastota, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are made under the supervision of J. Homer Ball Funeral Home Inc, 201 James Street, Canastota, NY. Please consider memorial contributions in Charlotte’s memory to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service Inc, PO Box 382, Canastota, NY 13032.
