Obituary of Richard L. Carrier, Sr.

Blossvale, NY….. Richard L. Carrier Sr., known affectionately as Dick, passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on February 2, 1935, he was a devoted son to his late parents, Leo and Alice (Sacher) Carrier. Dick was a loving husband of 53 years to Katherine Egan Carrier, a nurturing father to his children, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Dick graduated from Canastota High School in 1953 and went on to become the owner and operator of ABC Dairy Farms in Canastota, NY. His love and dedication to nature and animals was evident in everything he did. Dick was an active member of his community, serving as president of Canastota Lions Club, and Lenox Town Assessor. He will be remembered as a kind, helpful, and fun-loving individual who was always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His caring and devoted nature touched the lives of many in his community. Dick is survived by his wife, Katherine; children, Richard Jr. (Sandra), Christopher (Barbara), Lori (Bernard Nadeau), John and Jesse (Mara Miller). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Rich, Carrie (Valesquez), Brad, Brian Nadeau, Josiah, Jack, and Natalie, and six great-grandchildren with another on the way. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his mother-in-law Dorthy Murphy, his sister Beverly James, his sister-in-law Jean Egan, his brother-in-law Jack Egan, and his grandson Joshua Carrier. At Dick’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association of Canastota in memory of Dick, honoring his love for animals. His spirit and legacy will live on through the many lives he has touched.
