CANASTOTA . . .

John R. Shaffner, Sr., 68, of Canastota, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Oneida Health.

He was born on May 22, 1956, in Syracuse, the son of Lawrence and Phila (Hine) Shaffner.

John spent his early years in the Syracuse area, attending the Baldwinsville schools, and has lived in the Canastota area for the last twenty years.

He enjoyed woodworking, and is a former member of the Sawdust and Woodchips Woodworking Club in Syracuse.

When he was younger, he was married to Zettie Yingst, and together they had five sons: John R. Shaffner, Jr. of Norwich, Jason and Amie Shaffner of Castle Rock, CO, Jeffrey R. Shaffner of Canastota, Justin R. Shaffner of Greece, NY, and Joshua R. and Karinny Shaffner of Baldwinsville; one brother, Lawrence and Karen Shaffner of N. Dakota; two sisters, Melissa Hunt of Fulton, and Tamara and Al Eckstadt of Jordan, NY; nine grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was predeceased by one sister, Phylinda Nitzke.

At John's request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
