Obituary of Elsie Mae Poppleton

CANASTOTA . . . Elsie Mae Poppleton, 93, of Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Oneida Health Care, following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 8, 1932, in Canajoharie, the daughter of the late Clarence and Florence (Spraker) Button. Elsie spent her early years in Canajoharie, graduating from Canajoharie Central School in 1950. She has lived in Canastota for the last seventy-one years. She worked at Hubbard Industries in Wampsville for many years, retiring in 1991. Elsie was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, gardening, her cats, and spending time with her family. Elsie married Neil W. Poppleton on September 2, 1950, in Fort Plain, NY. Neil passed away on August 17, 2020. Surviving are: two daughters, Linda Morris of Canastota, and Sally and William Zielasko of Canastota; two sons, Neil W. Poppleton, II, and his companion, Teresa Rao of Canastota, and Richard and Diane Poppleton of Canastota; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Paul Pylman, Bradley Poppleton, Roy Poppleton, Paris Poppleton, Joshua Bortle, Spike and Debbie Klahs, Kevin and Kirsten Morris, and Jacob Zielasko; eight great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elsie was predeceased by a son, Roy A. Poppleton; and two sisters, Mary Lou Dygert, and Eileen Kowal. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Donna Chapman of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Whitelaw Cemetery, Canastota. In her memory contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter, 5015 Campuswood Drive, Suite 102, E.
