CANASTOTA . . .
George W. Hannan, Jr., 86, of 249½ S. Peterboro Street, Canastota, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Oneida Healthcare, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 3, 1938, in Canastota, the son of the late George, Sr. and Gladys (Shortsleeves) Hannan.
George has lived in the Canastota area all of his life, attending the Canastota schools.
He worked for Rapasadi & Sons Produce in Canastota for many years. He previously worked at the former White Elephant Restaurant in Canastota, the former Rust Rail in Canastota, worked as a handyman in the area, and at one time managed the laundromat in Canastota.
George was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Memorial Post #600 in Canastota.
He enjoyed bowling in the Canastota Bowling Leagues, playing BINGO, riding his bike, fishing, watching TV – Loud, cartoons – especially Mickey Mouse, his dog "Daisy", and spending time with his family. He was fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants.
George married Suzanne J. Butler on July 1, 1978, in Canastota. Suzanne passed away on June 28, 2024.
Surviving are: four son, Christopher Hannan of Canastota, Glenn Hannan of PA, George Dutcher of Canastota, and Brice Hannan of Canastota; three daughters, Eileen Hubbard of Verona Beach, Kimberly and Bertie Johnson of Chittenango, and Tina Coss of Oneida; two brothers, Jerry and Lynn Hannan of Canastota, and Harry Hannan of FL; two sisters, Irene Arnold of UT, and MaryLou and Harold Chaires of Canastota; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. George was predeceased by one brother, Sheridan Hannan; and four sisters, Louise Hannan, Rosemary Johnson, Doris Fazio, and Nancy Adamo.
A graveside service and Celebration of his Life will be held in the Spring at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
