Obituary of Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Richards

ONEIDA . . . Jacqueline A. Richards, 80, of 167 N. Willow Street, Oneida, ended her journey here to begin a new one in Heaven on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Oneida Healthcare, following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 10, 1944, in Hamilton, the daughter of the late Robert and Blanche (Lewis) Kinney. Jackie spent her early years in Randallsville and in Canastota for many years, attending the Hamilton and Canastota schools. She later lived in N. Bay for thirty years, and has lived in Oneida for the past seven years. She worked as a waitress and hostess for more than thirty years at area restaurants, including the Vienna Hotel for many years. Jackie and her husband, Bill, owned and operated the Verona Beach Hotel from 1977-1983. Jackie was of the Catholic faith, and attended St. Mary's Church in Verona Beach for many years. She enjoyed hunting and fishing when she was younger, and also enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and spending time with her family. Jackie was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many. Jackie was first married to Louis J. "Louie" Zupan, Sr. for many years, with whom she had three children. She later married William J. "Bill" Richards on November 16, 1985, in Blossvale. Bill died on August 6, 2018. Surviving are: her children, Theresa Zupan of Oneida, Louis Zupan, Jr. of Canastota, and Nicholas Zupan and Tabatha Miller of Georgetown; one stepdaughter, Shanna Richards and Walter Burnett of New York Mills; nine grandchildren, Troy Guy, Tim Guy, Jr., Stevie Lynn Guy, Patricia and Justin Ward, Michael Zupan, Zachary and Kristie Zupan, Andrew Zupan, Elizabeth and Sean Hawks, Jordan Richards, and Issy Burnett; five great grandchildren, Vinny Graziano, Gia Guy, Aidan Guy, Taylor Guy, and Rylee Guy; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Jackie was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Kinney, and Lawrence Kinney. A special thanks to all the staff at Oneida Healthcare and Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, for the excellent care that Jackie received. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thurs day, January 16, 2025, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the funeral home. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate. Burial will be in North Bay Cemetery. In her memory, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
