Obituary of Dominick N. Mariano

CANASTOTA . . . Dominick N. Mariano, 88, of 7188 Klock Road, Canastota, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at The Grand (Rome) following a lengthy illness. Born on July 16, 1930, to the late Remingildo "Big Jim" Mariano and Bessie (Sawyer) Mariano Smith, Dominick was one of fourteen children. Dominick lived in Canastota all of his life. Dedicated to his job and community, he worked for the Canastota Department of Public Works for 34 years, retiring as a Foreman in 1993. Dominick enjoyed classic western movies, playing bingo, operating heavy equipment, and spending time with his family. Those who knew Dominick will miss his mischievous and good-natured wit. Dominick was predeceased by his wife Joan (Ausman) Mariano in 1993. Following her death, he married Carol A. (Maskell) Mariano on March 3, 1993, sharing nearly 26 years together. Dominick is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Dominick Mariano Jr., Diane Mariano, Dale Mariano, Debra (Mariano) Johnson, Robert (April) Carter, Matthew (Amy) Carter; three sisters, Geraldine (Donald) Williamson, Mary Watts, and Rosalie Mariano; twelve grandchildren; Stacy, Christopher, Michael, Salvatore, Shameka, Joshua, Jasmine, Alex, Joanna, Josh, Andrew, and Emily; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dominick was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Mariano; his great grandson, Maverik; and his brothers and sisters. Dominick and Carol want to extend their deepest appreciation to dear family friends Rorie and Kasey Elkaisy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, NY, 13032, officiated by Deacon Adolph Uryniak of St. Agatha's Catholic Church. Private burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, prior to the funeral, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, Inc. (GLAS), P.O.
