CANASTOTA . . . Darwin L. Chafee, 58, of 247 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Oneida Healthcare, following a sudden illness. He was born on May 12, 1959, in Canastota, the son of Lyle P. and Elizabeth (Hart) Chafee. Darwin spent his early years in Peterboro, graduating from Morrisville-Eaton High School in 1977. He has lived in Canastota most of his life. In his younger years, he worked on the Richardson Farm in Peterboro. Darwin had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed fixing Christmas lights, puzzles, and spending time with his family. Surviving are: his mother, Elizabeth Chafee of Canastota; one brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Lynn Chafee of Canastota; five sisters, Rose Chafee of Canastota, Vera Chafee of Chittenango, Irene VanVorst of Oneida, Lila Ward of Oneida, and Lily Beth Chafee of Syracuse; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Darwin was predeceased by his father; and a brother, Russell Chafee. Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. William M. Wilcox, Pastor of the Fyler Community Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, PO Box 382, Canastota, NY 13032. J.
