CANASTOTA . . . Mary R. Montalbano, 91, of 407 Delano Avenue, Canastota, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, following a lengthy illness in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 16, 1927, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Dominick and Rose (DeFazio) Salamino. Mary has lived in the Canastota all of her life, attending the Canastota schools. She worked at General Electric in Syracuse for many years, retiring in 1989. Mary enjoyed doing cross stitch, making afghans, going to garage sales, and flower gardening. She was an excellent cook and baker, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. Mary married Felice J. "Felix" Montalbano on November 22, 1947 in Canastota. Felix passed away on October 8, 1998. Surviving are: one daughter, Shirley A. Walker of Canastota; three grandchildren, Shannon Walker, Brian Walker, and Jessica and Gregory Dunne; four great grandchildren, Sarah Walker Molly Dunne, Liam Dunne, and Teagan Dunne ; two sisters, Jennie Doria of Juniper, FL, and Virginia McWorthy of Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Angelo Salamino, Jr.; and many cousins. A special thanks to Mary's caregivers, Jeanine Chenel, Kristi Nichols, and Shirley Watson. Mary was predeceased by a brother, Angelo Salamino, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, where a funeral mass will be held. The Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. There will be no calling hours, however, the family will greet friends at a luncheon at the church center following the mass and burial. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, or to St. Agatha's Church Bereavement Ministry, 329 N.
