SHERRILL . . . Matthew P. (Matt) Barone, 56, of Sherrill, died unexpectedly on Saturday January 19, 2019, following a heart attack in his home. He was born on April 7, 1962, in Syracuse, the son of the late Nicholas Barone and Ann (Gaber) Barone Ziparo. Matt grew up in Syracuse, graduating from Henniger High School in 1980. He later graduated from Johnson and Wales College in Providence, RI, and continued his education at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He was a master chef, and owner of Creative Chefs Catering in Sherill. In his younger years Matt was an aspiring boxer, who followed in the footsteps of his uncle, Carmen Barone. Cooking was his passion, and he received a silver medal for exhibition displays for the United States Culinary Olympic Team, and was the 2002 Bon Appetit Chef of the Year. Matt was an SU Basketball Fan, enjoyed telling stories, and spending time with his family and friends. Matt married Lori Munz on January 4, 2005, in Key West, FL. Matt leaves his loving wife, Lori, and two children, Mattie and Kristen Cerio of Eastwood, and Max Barone and his fiancée, Amanda Golis, of Buffalo; two stepchildren, Gerry Rockwell of Hamilton, and Katie Humphreys and her fiancé, Ryan Eddy, of Deansboro; one granddaughter, Rylee Rockwell; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Mark and Sandy Barone of Syracuse, and Nick Barone of Syracuse; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Ricky Smith of North Carolina; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Kay Falcone of Sherrill, and Lori's extended family; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Church of the Nazarene, 3640 Seneca Turnpike, Canastota. Pastor Jeff Rogers will officiate. The family will greet friends on Saturday, at a gathering at the church following the memorial service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148, or to Wanderers' Rest Humane Association, Inc., PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the church.
