CANASTOTA . . . Harold F. Phillips, Jr., 68, of 112 Mill Street, Canastota, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse, following a brief illness. He was born on October 16, 1950, in Canastota, the son of the late Harold, Sr. and Jennie (Smith) Phillips. Harold lived in Canastota most of his life, attending the Canastota schools. He had also lived in Texas for several years. He worked for Oneida Limited Silversmiths in Sherrill for 33 years, retiring in 2005. Harold later worked as a tow truck driver for his daughter's company, Jerry's Texan Towing in Austin, Texas, for 10 years. Harold was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Charles Miller Post # 140 in Canastota, a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post # 230 in Sherrill, a charter member of the VFW Memorial Post 600 in Canastota, a member of the American Legion Vincent F. Taylor Post 290 in Dripping, TX, and the VFW Vincent F. Taylor Post 2933 in Dripping, TX . Harold was also a lifetime member of the 69th Armory Association, the 4th Infantry Division Association, and the 40 et 8 in Canastota. Harold established American Legion Baseball in Oneida County and Madison County. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Harold married Linda M. Coons on March 20, 1971, in Wampsville. Linda died on January 24, 2019. Surviving are: one son, Kirby Phillips of Canastota; one daughter, Amanda Patterson and her partner, Jason Castano, of Dripping Springs, TX; one stepson, Brian Phillips of Oneida; seven grandchildren, Kyle Phillips, Jakob Phillips, Jena Patterson, Jaydon Patterson, Stephanie Phillips, Angela Phillips, and Amber and Willie Phillips; six great grandchildren, Riley, Skyler, Brendon, Timothy, Jesse, and Kyran; two brothers, Peter and Michelle Phillips of New London, and Nathan and Clyde Phillips-Frey of Land O Lakes, FL; two sisters, Linda and John Butler of Oneida, and Connie York of Hamilton; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold was predeceased by a stepson, Dennis Phillips, who died on October 11, 2001; a son-in-law, Jerry Patterson, who died on September 6, 2010; two brothers, Kevin Phillips, and Wesley "PeeWee" Phillips; and a sister, Sandra Loucks. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Nathan and Clyde Phillips-Frey will officiate. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
