I'm so sorry to hear about Matt's passing. He was a truly good person. We would communicate a lot about world events and wonder about the state of affairs. He was always kind to me which I appreciated. I appreciated the time we spent together. My heart felt sadness goes out to his wonderful wife, kids and grandkids. The world needs more people like him. I will be thinking of the family through this time.

What can I say about Matt- to know him, was to love him. Yes my son-in-law, but more like a son in every sense. He couldn't do enough for me and was always there when I needed him. A loving husband to my daughter Kim. A wonderful father to Krista, Matt, and Ryan and a fun "Papa" for grandkids Jayce, Jude, and Remy. I feel truly blessed to have had him in my life and he will be in my heart forever.

I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Matt's passing. I helped Matt move his young family to Canastota some years back, and watched Matt together with his loving wife Kim raise a wonderful family here. Matt and his family have been our good friends ever since that beginning. He was, and still is, a wonderful father and deeply devoted and loving grandfather . He always greeted me with a big smile that would brighten up my day, and I know that he had a positive influence on my daughter growing up in his presence. My sincere condolences and love to his loving wife Kim, Krista, Matt, Ryan and Lacy, and all the rest of Matt's family. I share in your loss.

To the Carswell Family: May Almighty God Bless You all. I was with Matt from the beginning of our school days starting at LWBills Elementary until we graduated Herkimer High School In 1976 together. Matt was a good hearted person. He was always nice to all of his fellow students and teachers as well. Matt always had respect for everyone! I always remember Matt as an easy going kid that you enjoyed having as a friend. He was a hard working student and played sports as well. A real All-American kid! I’ll always remember a time at Bills school during a fire-drill we both held the doors open for everyone to Exit the building, we both ended up the only two students in the whole place! We both could not stop laughing about it! My heart goes out to Matt’s family and our fellow students as well. Those that knew Matt would agree he was one of the best friends a person could ever ask for! I will always miss him and think about our school days together! May God always hold close the love that Matt shared with his family here on earth, and welcome him home into Heaven. Always with Love, John Natarelli HHS Class of 1976

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Carswell Family. Uncle Matt, may your love live on in our hearts and through the love of our family. Words fail to express our sorrow, you will be missed immensely.
I thank God for the joyful memories Uncle Matt brought to our lives. He and my father were very close, sharing a unique and special bond. We spent many weekends enjoying each other’s company at my grandparents home. The countless gymnastic practices and dance recitals kept us all busy and close. Uncle Matt was always so friendly and kind to us. He was a hard worker and true family man. His easygoing personality shined when our families would often travel to the New Jersey shore together to enjoy the summer sun.
Sending prayers out to the entire family. May God grant us strength to cope with this devastating loss while cherishing the time we had with such an amazing man.
