Obituary of Sarah M. "Sue" (Dunne) Hamilton

CANASTOTA . . . Sarah M. "Sue" (Dunne) Hamilton, 84, of 9087 Tioughanack Road, Canastota, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 19, 1939, in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Seymour and Mary (McEvoy) Rugg. Sue spent her early years in Lewiston, graduating from St. Mary's High School in Niagara Falls, NY. She later lived in Tonawanda for many years, moving to Canastota in 1986. She was a nature lover, who enjoyed bird watching, wildlife, her cats, and spending time with her family. Sue first married Thomas J. Dunne, Jr. She later married David J. Hamilton on April 25, 1986, in Canastota. David passed away on September 16, 2017. Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Carleen Dunne, and John and Marlene Dunne, all of Tonawanda; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Ted Elioff of Cape Vincent, and Wendy and Jim Bacon of Tonawanda; seven grandchildren, Pierce Dunne, Devon Dunne, Emily Dunne, Kathleen Dunne, Teddy and Jackie Elioff, Jamie-Lyn and Keith Mercer, and Timothy Bacon; one great grandson, Liam Elioff; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A funeral service will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Deacon David Schiltz of St. Agatha’s Church, Canastota, will officiate. Burial will be in Whitelaw Cemetery, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to Wanderers' Rest Humane Association, Inc., PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
