CANASTOTA… Joseph P. Rinaldo of Canastota, New York passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was born on July 4, 1952, in Canastota, New York the son of the late Frank O. Rinaldo and Josephine (Sorbello) Rinaldo. Joe was a 1971 graduate of Canastota High School; he continued his education at Nassau Community College making his way to Albany State University. There he became a proud member of the 1974 Undefeated Albany State Great Dane Football Team under the guidance of the legendary Coach Bob Ford. Following his time at Albany State, Joe embarked on a successful career in the restaurant and bar industry. Over more than 30 years, he was the esteemed owner and operator of several popular establishments in Central New York, including: The Three Pines Restaurant in Canastota, Sutter’s Mill in Syracuse, Sugar Mill in Liverpool, Caribou Club in Syracuse, Whitetail Tavern in Manlius, and the Bella Luna in Canastota. His venues became beloved gathering spots known for their atmosphere and his personal touch. After retiring from the restaurant business in 2002, Joe transitioned back into the workforce in 2007 contributing his sales and communication skills to the SHRED IT Corporation and Servomation Refreshments, Inc. His ability to adapt and thrive was a reflection of his perseverance and resilient spirit. Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was deeply passionate about football. His love for the game extended beyond his own playing days as he dedicated much of his life to coaching. Joe found great fulfilment in teaching, motivating, and inspiring young athletes of all skill levels. He firmly believed in the values of hard work, pride in one’s efforts, and viewing success as an ongoing journey. His coaching philosophy and the lessons he imparted will be remembered by countless players whose lives he touched. In addition to his love of football, Joe’s love for his home town and sports led him to becoming the first President of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota. Joe is survived by four sisters, Virginia Martin of Canastota, NY, Louise (Bob) Kracus of Brookville, OH, and Darlene Rinaldo and Debra Rinaldo of Schoharie, NY. He was predeceased by his brother Frank (Cynthia) Rinaldo Jr. on August 16, 2006. Joe was the proud uncle of 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and 6 great-great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 9am-12pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A memorial service at the funeral home will follow calling hours and will be officiated by Pastor Cooper Young. A private interment for the family will be made at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Leyden, NY. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Joseph P. Rinaldo, contributions may be made to: Raider Family All Sports Booster Club, PO Box 738, Canastota, NY 13032, and Canastota Pop Warner, PO Box 528, Canastota, NY 13032 with envelopes available at the funeral home. May he rest in eternal peace in the loving embrace of his ancestors.
